IMPACT OF DR B. VENGAMMA’S TENURE AS
DIRECTOR, SVIMS :-
Ø SVIMS TOPs among the TOP 20 Hospitals in terms of extending treatment to
the patients under Aarogyasri scheme.
Ø There is significant inflow of out patients as well as inpatients showing
a growth rate of 40 – 50% since 2010.
Developmental Activities
I.
STATUTORY BODIES:
Meetings
of the statutory bodies namely: the Executive Board, Finance
committee were held regularly.
The Act of the University for amendment was introduced
in the Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly on 16.03.2013 and received assent of
the Governor on 05.07.2013 was published on 09.07.2013 in the A.P. Gazette for
general information vide Act No. 9 of 2013.
Accordingly, the Chairman of the Governing Council shall be substituted
as Chairman-cum-Chancellor, the
Director shall be substituted as Director-cum-Vice
Chancellor. The Hon’ble Minister for
Health, Medical and Family Welfare shall be designated as the Chairman of the
Executive Board of SVIMS in the place of Hon’ble Chief Minister.
II.
ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES:
Since
2003, SVIMS is running several broad and super-specialty courses
recognized/permitted by MCI, DNB, Ph.D programme, nursing, physiotherapy and
paramedical courses.
(i)
Post
Graduate Medical Courses:
The
number of seats offered in super specialty medical branches (DM) are 13,
surgical specialties (MCh) are 14 and in broad specialties (MD) are 25.

Assistant Professor of Cardiology, SVIMS is daily (Monday – Saturday) visiting
SVRRG Government Hospital and attending out-patients, In-patients and Echo-cardiography
v Started Monthly Mortality
meetings and introduced the several teaching programmes in the form of Capsule
on investigation, research presentation ,Clinico pathological conference(CPC)
and interesting case presentation
(ii) Post-doctoral fellowship programmes are offered in
Surgical Gastroenterology, Radio-diagnosis & Imaging, Neuroanaesthesia,
Cardiac Anaesthesia, Critical Care Medicine, Surgical Oncology. Certificate courses are also offered in
ImmunoHaematology and Blood Transfusion and Critical Care.
(iii) Allied Health Sciences: 3-year and 2-year
Msc courses and various Paramedical Courses (total = 60)
For the academic
year 2013-14, 352 students were admitted in various academic programmes of the
University; over all more than a 1000 students are present in the University
campus.
Up-gradation of the Library
The Library is upgraded with 10 kbps high
speed static IP address facility with 6 computers from July’ 2013 to facilitate
the faculty and post graduates for speedy access of the research material and
access through CLINICAL KEY
(iv) Sri Padmavathi Medical
College for women:
The Govt. of Andhra
Pradesh have issued revised/revalidated Essentiality Certificate (dt:
17.09.2013) in favour of SVIMS for starting Sri Padmavathi Medical College for
women with 150 admissions at SVIMS premises, Tirupati. Further, the Tirumala
Tirupati Devasthanams was kind enough in allotting 50 acres of land, in
addition to the existing 57.04 acres within the campus. An extent of 26.2 acres
of vacant land is utilized for developing the facilities like Medical College,
Teaching Hospital, Library and Residential complex by APMSIDC, Govt. of AP. The Govt. have issued orders of
administrative sanction for Rs. 182.11 crores (Vide G.O.Rt. No.1171,dt: 3.10.13)
towards capital expenditure for starting the college w.e.f. 2014-15 academic
year.
(v)
National Knowledge Network:
The
Institute is connected with National Knowledge Network (NKN) with 200 nodes and
extended to 1500 nodes in future. The
services provided include Internet, Intranet, Network management views, Web
hosting, SMS gateway, Video streaming, Community services, Special services
etc. This facility has enabled the
faculty, postgraduates and research scholars for advancing their research.
(vi)
HLA Lab:
The
establishment of HLA Laboratory is in process.
The following equipments have been procured – Laminar Airflow chamber,
Blood Bank refrigerator (4±20C), Incubator, Refrigerated (cooling)
Centrifuge, Micro Centrifuge, Hot air oven, Inverted Microscope.
(vii)
MOU with Sri Venkateswara University
SVIMS University has signed a historic Memorandum
of Understanding (MoU) with Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati on
18.04.2013, which will facilitate collaborative research in the fields of
medicine and life science departments like zoology, microbiology, biochemistry,
virology, botany and anthropology.
(vii) Accreditation of Mycobacteriology Laboratory :
The process for accreditation of Mycobacteriology
Laboratory in the Department of Mircobiology, SVIMS by RNTCP, Govt.of India has
reached the final stage. The Laboratory was setup with funds provided by SVIMS
as well as European Union TB Susgent Grant (Alladi Mohan).
III. Examination Results for the academic year
2012-13 :
The students have attained best results in final
semester/year University examinations
i.e., 100% pass in BPT, B.Sc(N),
M.Sc(N), M.Sc (Medical), MPT, MD., DM., except in M.Sc (Biotechnology &
Bioinformatics) (94.4%) and in M.Ch courses (80%). In this Convocation, 308 students

Journal of Clinical and Scientific Research
Another land mark event is the starting of a quarterly, peer-reviewed
free full-text online medical journal “Journal of Clinical and Scientific
Research” by SVIMS on 26th of February 2012 utlising the funds
of Sri Balaji Arogya Varaprasadini Scheme .
The journal has already
been indexed in “Index Copernicus, Academic Index, Open J-gate, Directory of
Open Access Journals (DOAJ), Journal Seek, Indian Science Abstracts, Geneva
Foundation for Medical Education and Research, New Jour, Academic Journals
Database, Research Bible and Directory of Research Journals Indexing (DRJI).’’
The journal is attracting contributions from academicians across the country
and abroad. So far, 8 issues have been successfully brought out since 2012.
Research
The faculty, postgraduates and research scholars are actively involved
in research activities. SVIMS Faculty have secured extramural grants from agencies, such as, DBT, ICMR,
DRDO, Central TB Division, European Union .
The institute also supports course-work research
(MD/DM/MCh/Ph.D) and original investigative research of the faculty members
through Sri Balaji Arogyavaraprasadini (SBAVP) Scheme.
Publications
The Institute faculty
and post graduates have published 80 research papers in peer-reviewed indexed
international and national journals for the year 2012.
(i)
Patents :
The department of Biotechnology got
registered for patent on “Identification of Tyrosine kinase and
Serine/Threonine kinase activities in Staphylococcus aureus ATCC12600. Indian Patent filed: TR-5, C.B.R. NO:6535”.
(ii)
Honours & Key assignments
Dr
B Vengamma, Director-cum-Vice Chancellor, SVIMS and Dr Alladi Mohan, Professor and HOD, Medicine were invited as External
Examiners for DM (Neurology) and MD (Medicine) courses respectively at
Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal.
V.
Welfare measures
Several welfare measures, such as,
enhanced services for faculty and postgraduates; enhanced services for visiting
faculty; screening services and investigations for cervical and breast cancers
for all women employees; extension of healthcare facility to out-sourced employees
were undertaken.
Introduced the
procedure of awarding The Certificate of Merit to meritorious employees and
deserving out-sourced staff on the occasion of Republic day every year . Srivari Gold Dollar (5 gram) was sanctioned
to the employees to honour them at the time of their retirement.

- The wages for all the
contract workers were rescheduled in order to make the payment before 03rd
of each month through bank.
- The EL, EPF, Medical
benefits are extended to all the contract employees fulfilling the norms of the Labour act.

employees are given Identification cards by early identification of the
patients and public and by the administration.
VI.
Health Care Services:
OPD service
In OPD, the patient flow is
streamlined to facilitate quick consultation by opening additional counters and
providing additional staff.
Free Clinics/OPD services
These
include: daily free RNTCP and NACO services;
Weekly Free Juvenile Diabetic Clinic;
Free Diabetic Clinic;; Free High BP and Prosthetic Valve
Clinic; and monthly Free
Epilepsy Clinic
Hospital Management Information System:
The Hospital Management Information System developed and upgraded by National Informatic
Center (NIC) using free open source software (FOSS) tools and conforms to HL 7
standards for managing health care service delivery. is functioning since 29.08.2013.
Implementation of No Queue system in OPD:
No Queue system has been introduced on 06.06.2013
FREE Liquid Nutritional Diet/Feed to Patients:
With an objective to assist the in-patients who need liquid
diet with 1800 kcal per day, an innovative scheme is started with the financial
assistance of the Friends of SVIMS Society.
Sri Venkateswara Pranadana
Scheme
The Sri
Venkateswara Pranadana Scheme has been providing yeomen service, especially for
patients afflicted with diseases that are not covered under the Aarogyasri
scheme. So far 7,185 patients were underwent treatment under this scheme by
spending an amount of Rs.26.15 crores upto September 2013.
Implementation of Sri Rajiv Aarogyasri Scheme at
SVIMS:
SVIMS has
consistently been a top performer in the implementation of the Aarogyasri
Scheme of Govt. of Andhra Pradesh.
From the time of
inception of the programme, 306 Aarogyasri medical camps were conducted,
1,61,526 patients were attended for OPD clinic, 74,706 patients were screened
and 4,639 patients were referred to SVIMS for further investigations /
management. The total number of
surgeries performed are 13,418 and medical procedures performed are 29,610.
Infection Control:
SVIMS has
launched a crusade for reducing hospital acquired infection by forming Infection Control Committee in
February 2010. The infection control
nurse was appointed exclusively, to look after under the chairmanship of the
Medical Superintendent and the guidance of the Professor & HOD of
Microbiology. The committee meets once a
month to review the progress and chart out the future plans for reducing
hospital acquired infection rate, by enforcing hand wash technique by all.
VII.
Equipments:
Equipments worth of Rs.16,54,91,943/- were
procured. Equipments were also procured
with the financial assistance of Govt. of India through PMSSY scheme worth of
Rs.11,63,26,676/-
X Public awareness programmes
Several public awareness programmes were conducted,
such as:

Epilepsy Day, World Diabetes Day, National Epilepsy Day, World
AIDS Day, World Disability Day, National Voters Day, World Cancer Day,
International Women’s Day, World Kidney Day, World TB Day, International Nurses
Day, The World “No Tobacco Day”, Blood
Donors Day, Doctor’s Day, Teacher’s Day
, World Physiotherapy Day, The World Heart Day , National Voluntary Blood Donation Day were held regularly every year.

that the common man and ordinary citizen attending the SVIMS would get the best
